Backpacking weekend

This weekend we had our first trip backpacking together and I think that it was a smashing success. We decided to try to conquer the Devil's Thumb trail that eluded us due to a lightning storm right after we had just moved to Denver. We did not know how the night was going to go because when we got our backcountry permit in Nederland the guy was like..."You want to camp where?!" His reaction was due to the massive amounts of snow that remained on the trail... even in the middle of June... and of course we had forgotten to pack our snowshoes or even gators. But we pushed through and Leo even took the heavier pack to lighten my load:) And thank heavens we did because it was a gorgeous hike! All of the snowmelt made for streams and rapids everywhere. And now Leo is officially a backcountry master chef with our JetBoil stove.... we had a delicious dinner at our 12000' camp of dehydrated beef stew (really, it was good...even with an expiration date of April 2016) and tea, followed by breakfast of oatmeal and more tea.

Here is a slide show of the half of our trip... the camera died:(

This is some NICE scenery! Glad to hear LEO is carrying the heavy backpack! You certainly do not look very pregnant YET! Looking forward to seeing you later this week! Mom
